Out the Box Radio launched February 2023 as a platform for women, people of color, and LGBTQIA to gain experience in radio and on air programming. Far too often minority groups, especially women, are overlooked when applying for positions in Radio Broadcasting due to lack of experience. How does one gain experience if never given a chance to begin with? Founder and Director of Programming, Callie Dee, remembers getting her start thanks to Texas Radio Hall Of Fame and Dallas Radio Legend, John Rody. In 2013, John gave Callie her first radio show and weekly events segment on the all local radio platform, "The Southside Pirate" that he created with his wife, Sallie Rody. For years she learned the ropes of how to interview guests, create evergreen content, and choose the right music for her program. During her time with Deep Ellum Radio she learned more of the back end of the Radio Business and fell in love with programming and producing others' content. With Out the Box Callie gained full creative control and ability to implement her own ideas of an ideal radio experience and found a way to provide the same opportunity the Rody's gave her a decade before. With the help of Regina Marsha', Erica Stephens, Deborah Dillard, Dezman Lehman, Katy Goddard and inspiration from her partner, Yusef Haroon, Callie Dee has created radio worth listening to 24/7.
